Curettage as a Treatment Option for Actinic Keratosis
Curettage is a procedure in which a curette, a surgical tool that is used to scrape and scoop tissue, is used to physically remove the actinic keratosis lesion. As this procedure involves physical removal, generally, it can be done in a single treatment session.
The procedure can certainly be painful and discomforting, however, this discomfort does not last very long. One major disadvantage is that, as with any surgical procedure, scarring is possible, and in fact, quite common.
The advantage is that the procedure can be done in one shot, and does not require prolonged treatment.
